Winston & Strawn has hired Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman's Mats Carlston as its co-chair of global finance along with five other hires from Pillsbury including one partner.

The departures are the latest in a raft of Pillsbury partners making the jump to Winston & Strawn. Two weeks ago, Legal Week reported eight Pillsbury partners were set to leave for Winston across its US offices.

Carlston joined Pillsbury in New York as partner and head of global finance in 2010. He previously worked for Boston-based Nixon Peabody for 25 years where he became head of its global finance practice.

Winston & Strawn has also hired New York-based M&A partner David Ordrich and senior counsel William Egler as partners. Counsel Timothy Kober will also join Winston & Strawn as of counsel.

In addition, the firm has hired two finance associates from Pillsbury.

Winston & Strawn has 18 offices after opening an office in Taiwan in April last year.

The departures mean there are at least ten partners now expected to leave Pillsbury for Winston.

Legal Week understands the managing partner of the Pillsbury's Abu Dhabi office, Stephen Jurgenson, and London partner James Simpson are also set to be moving over.

A spokesperson for Pillsbury said the firm "regretted the departure of any partners" but had "enjoyed excellent partner retention in recent years".

She added: "Pillsbury is aggressively and successfully involved in the lateral hiring market as well as in the execution of our growth strategies."
