Mishcon de Reya has promoted three women to its partnership and nine lawyers to the role of legal director in its annual promotions round.

The trio comprises London and New York-based litigator and sports lawyer Liz Ellen, commercial trial lawyer Victoria Pigott and real estate lawyer Emma Macintyre. This brings the number of partners and legal directors to 105 including 34 women.

Last year finance and banking lawyers James Oldnall and Raji Bartlett were promoted to partner, while three others, including two women, were promoted to legal director.

The firm has also announced that chair John Jackson is stepping down at the end of this month and will become chair emeritus.

Jackson joined Mishcon in 1992 as the first non-solicitor chair of a London firm.

Property partner Philip Freedman will replace Jackson as chair. Freedman joined the firm as a trainee in 1970 and was appointed as an honorary QC in 2009.

Mishcon is set to overhaul its partnership model, embracing an all-equity structure and becoming a limited liability partnership by the end of autumn this year.

As part of the proposed model, voted through by partners last year, the firm will no longer have fixed-share partners – it currently has 65. It is expected that all fixed-share partners will move into the equity.

Mishcon was recently granted approval for an alternative business structure (ABS) licence and will adopt the ABS model on 10 April. The firm also plans to bring up to four employees into the partnership who are currently part of the board or senior management team.
