Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has picked up another Linklaters partner in Hong Kong.

Banking finance and energy lawyer Thomas Ng – who specialises in advising Chinese companies on major banking, projects and energy transactions – will join fellow ex-Linklaters Asia partner David Ludwick after he also moved across to Freshfields last month.

The managing partner of Freshfields' Asia practice, Robert Ashworth, said the magic circle firm was focused on developing its finance and energy practices in the region and that Ng would play "a significant role" going forward.

Ng has been based in Beijing for the past decade, but will now transfer to Freshfields' Hong Kong office.

The departure of capital markets specialist Ludwick last month left Linklaters with five US law specialist partners in its Asia offices after Linklaters also lost Hong Kong-based corporate partner Peggy Wang to White & Case in January.

Freshfields and Linklaters worked together on the $24bn (£16.3bn) restructuring of one of Hong Kong's biggest conglomerates earlier this year.

Under the terms of the deal Cheung Kong Holdings and Hutchison Whampoa will bring all of their non-property assets into a new company called CK Hutchison Holdings.
