Suspended Gibson Dunn & Crutcher partner Peter Gray, who last week was ruled to have misled the court, is now facing legal proceedings for fraud and conspiracy in a separate case.

Gray is currently suspended from Gibson Dunn after a High Court judge ruled that he had "deliberately misled the court" in a case between the Republic of Djibouti and one of its wealthiest citizens.

In papers filed on Friday (27 March) Gray has been named as a defendant in a separate private prosecution, alongside two other individuals, which is due to be heard at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 9 April.

The case is being brought by the former Leeds United managing director and ex-general counsel of private equity group GFH Capital, David Haigh. It alleges that the trio is guilty of fraud and conspiracy relating to an ongoing case between Haigh and his former employer, GFH.

Until his suspension last month, Gray had been advising GFH in civil proceedings against Haigh in the Dubai International Financial Centre courts.

Haigh is currently imprisoned in Dubai, where he has been held for 10 months, on suspicion of fraud, embezzlement and money laundering. GFH owned Leeds United Football Club until 2014.

Haigh has instructed Stephenson Harwood to represent him both in the case against GFH in Dubai and against Gray. Stephenson Harwood has in turn instructed Great James Street Chambers' Alun Jones QC. It is understood that Olswang lawyers are supporting Stephenson Harwood.

Gray is being represented by Peters & Peters. The two other defendants are understood to be being represented by Bryan Cave. Bryan Cave did not respond to requests for comment.

Gibson Dunn, Stephenson Harwood and Gray declined to comment.
