Trowers & Hamlins has focused its spring promotions to partner on the UK real estate market as the total number of promotions it made increased dramatically from last year.

The firm made nine promotions across the business but the most dominant sector to benefit was real estate, which saw four promotions including Katie Todd and Julian Keith in London, Rachel Carter in Exeter and Matthew Holbrook in Manchester.

Four of the new partners made up this spring are female.

The number of promotions is a dramatic increase since last year when the firm promoted only four to its partnership, the smallest round since 2010. Only one of those promotions was London based.

This year, the firm has promoted six in London.

In Abu Dhabi, Trowers promoted corporate lawyer Johannes Eisser to partner. The firm has suffered losses in the Middle East including the departure of Oman corporate head Charles Schofield and banking partner Roger Byrne to launch Addleshaw Goddard's new office in 2013.

In March this year, Trowers also lost its United Arab Emirates head Abdullah Mutawi and international dispute resolution head Lucas Pitt to Baker Botts.

The firm closed its Cairo office in 2014 amid political uncertainty in the country at the time.

Meanwhile, US firm Debevoise & Plimpton has promoted two new partners in London as part of its six-strong partnership round.

London associate Richard Lawton, who joined the firm in 2013, has been made up within the international dispute resolution group. He specializes in complex litigation and has wide-ranging experience across a full spectrum of industries and jurisdictions.

Investment management associate Sally Gibson has also joined the firm's partnership. Her practice focuses on advising sponsors of private investment funds, including buyout and real estate funds.
