Former Travers Smith managing partner Andrew Lilley has retired from the firm to pursue a career teaching economics at A-level. Lilley, a 20-year veteran of the firm, was replaced by David Patient on 1 January this year, and will continue to do some consultancy work with the firm.

Goodwin Procter has launched a private equity practice in London with the hire of King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) corporate co-head Richard Lever. The mid-market specialist must first complete his notice period at KWM as US-headquartered Goodwin Procter looks to expand out from the real estate, capital markets and fund formation focus it established at its London launch in 2011.

Goodwin Procter has also brought Macfarlanes associate Catriona Berman into its real estate capital markets practice in London. Berman, who advises on a wide range of real estate transactions including acquisitions, management of estates and asset management agreements, must work out her notice period at her old firm before joining.
