Dentons secured the CSR award for its work helping to alleviate the impact of the Syrian refugee crisis. The Syrian conflict has grown into a humanitarian tragedy, leading to the exodus and internal displacement of millions of refugees.

Although humanitarian organisations are trying to assist, many do not have the local expertise and knowledge to be able to help the refugees.

Using its offices around the Middle East – particularly in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey – Dentons was able to help NGOs with local law advice.

The firm partnered with the not-for-profit organisation Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) to provide pro bono advice relating to issues such as landlord-tenant law and international human rights law.

The NRC said of Dentons' help: "[We were] delighted with the work you sent
us. Content and extent of the responses were deemed perfect, and we would not have been able to collect such quality information by ourselves."

Project leader John Balouziyeh, an associate in the Dentons' Riyadh office, said
the scope of the project had been expanded this year.
