Weightmans has merged with Leeds firm Ford & Warren in a move that is set to take the firm's revenue past the £100m mark.

Weightmans posted revenue of £89m in 2014-15.

The addition of Ford & Warren staff will take the total headcount at the firm to more than 1,400.

The tie-up, which took effect from 3 July, gives Weightmans a Leeds office in addition to its eight other UK offices in Liverpool, Dartford, Birmingham, Glasgow, Leicester, Knutsford, London and Manchester.

Weightmans managing partner John Schorah said: "We look forward to being stronger together, and working in synergy to maintain the high standards we set ourselves for our clients."

Ford & Warren managing partner Peter McWilliams said the two firms "shared a common ethos" and had similar cultures and strategies.

He added: "It became apparent early on that we were well matched, and we look forward to growing the business, overcoming new challenges and exceeding client expectations together, both in the North and nationwide."

In April Weightmans made up four partners in an all-female promotion round. The appointments included non-lawyer human resources director Sam Airey. Airey was the second non-lawyer to join the firm's partnership after it received an alternative business licence in 2013.
