Sidley Austin, Stikeman Elliott and Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg have all won mandates as medical waste management company Stericycle acquires document destruction company Shred-it.

Stericycle will pay $2.3bn (£1.47bn) in cash to acquire Shred-it, which provides document destruction services to over 400,000 customers in 15 countries.

Sidley Austin and Davies Ward Phillips are acting for Stericycle.

The Sidley team is being led by Chicago M&A partner Michael Gordon and New York M&A partner Scott Freeman.

Shred-it is being represented by Stikeman Elliott.

Stikeman's team is headed by Toronto M&A partner Ron Ferguson.

In April Sidley Austin acted for data storage company Iron Mountain on its acquisition of Australian information management company Recall Holdings for AUS$2.6bn (£1.4bn).

On that deal the Sidley team was headed by M&A partners Paul Choi and Mike Heinz and antitrust partner Ken Glazer.

Recent major deals for Stikeman include advising on the Canadian aspects of Actavis' acquisition of Botox-maker Allergan for $66bn (£42bn) in November 2014.
