Baker & McKenzie has appointed Jonathan Peddie, Barclays' ex-managing director of litigation and investigations, as a partner in its London office.

Peddie, who was also the bank's global head of financial crime legal, left Barclays in February after nine years.

His previous roles at the bank include managing director of litigation and investigations for global retail and commercial banking.

Peddie will join Bakers' corporate investigations group, where he will focus on investigations in the finance sector.

Before joining Barclays he spent nine years at Clifford Chance, which included three years as deputy general counsel.

Bakers' global head of dispute resolution, Tom Cassels, said: "His appointment builds on the rapid growth of our global corporate investigations practice as clients continue to seek advice on how to handle cross-border investigations."

Peddie said: "As is well known the banking industry has been through a period of significant regulatory and public scrutiny. Similar pressures are now growing in many other industries.

"All major businesses need to have a sound process for corporate internal investigations that public authorities, investors and consumers will regard as adequately objective.

"Few firms have as strong a platform as Bakers for delivering the advice and support that clients need on a global basis."

Peddie was one of a raft of senior figures to leave Barclays this year.

In January it was announced that GC for corporate and investment banking Judith Shepherd was stepping down from her post.

Since then, there have been at least another five senior in-house departures, including head of litigation Dave Hart, head of corporate banking legal Joanna Carver, investment bank EMEA GC Erica Handling, deputy group GC Michael Shaw and Peddie.

Bakers also added former Standard Chartered group head of legal David Brimacombe to its London office this month.

Brimacombe's other roles at Standard Chartered included head of regulatory, risk, compliance and financial crime and head of litigation.

He joins the firm as a consultant in its global financial institutions group.
