Baker & McKenzie and Kirkland & Ellis have landed the lead roles on grain trader Cargill's acquisition of Norwegian salmon-feed supplier EWOS in a €1.4bn (£960m) deal.

Private equity firms Altor Equity Partners and Bain Capital Partners are selling the salmon-feed company.

Cargill is being represented by Baker & McKenzie. London corporate partner Nick O'Donnell is leading the team, assisted by London competition partner Luis Gomez and London intellectual property partner Michelle Blunt.

They are being supported by Baker & McKenzie teams across the globe in Santiago, Ho Chi Minh City and Toronto.

Pinsent Masons is advising Cargill on Scottish issues and Arntzen de Besche is involved in Norwegian aspects of the deal.

Kirkland & Ellis is acting for the sellers. London corporate partner Sam Pakbaz is leading the Kirkland team. He is being supported by fellow London corporate partner Justin Hutchinson.

Norwegian firm Advokatfirmaet Thommessen is acting as local counsel to Altor and Bain. It is fielding Oslo M&A partners Kim Dobrowen and Baard Bale.

Carey Abogados is advising Altor and Bain on the Chilean aspects of the deal.

Baker & McKenzie acted for Cargill in 2011 on its acquisition of Dutch animal feed company Provimi in a $2.1bn (£1.3bn) deal.

On that transaction London corporate partner Tim Gee led the firm's team, which also included competition partner Luis Gomez.
