Beijing firm Han Kun Law Offices has raided Chinese rival AllBright Law Offices, taking eight partners from its Shanghai office, along with ten other lawyers.

The group making the move is headed by M&A partner David Tang alongside corporate partners, Michael Mao, David Huang, Min Zhu and Andy Liao, who also works on dispute resolution.

The group are joined by labour law specialist Will Huang, who also has experience in international commercial, shipping and maritime litigation, and corporate finance partner Jun Li.

Finance partner James Miao is also joining the team in Shanghai, where he will focus his practice on advising international financial institutions on cross-border transactions.

The team will start at the firm this month.

Han Kun is a full service firm with four offices across Greater China in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

The firm opened its Hong Kong office last year in association with Hong Kong outfit Choy Cheung & Co.

Earlier this year Han Kun announced a formal tie up with Italian firm Gianni Origoni Grippo Cappelli & Partners, which has international offices in Abu Dhabi, Brussels, Hong Kong, London and New York.

In a statement the firm said the agreement involved the formation of combined teams dedicated to a practice area or client, client development, joint training as well as consultation and marketing.

AllBright has a much larger Chinese presence with offices in 11 domestic offices on the mainland, as well as a Hong Kong base.
