Shearman & Sterling hires Freshfields' TMT co-head in London
US firm recruits magic circle M&A partner and telecoms co-head Frank Miller to broaden its London M&A practice

Shearman & Sterling has hired Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer M&A partner and co-head of telecommunications, media and technology (TMT), Frank Miller, in London.
Miller, who is qualified in both US and English law, was appointed co-head of TMT in 2013, working alongside Brussels competition partner Laurent Garzaniti.
He also leads the magic circle firm's Israel practice with Adir Waldman, managing director of the Israel Focus Group.
His start date at Shearman is not yet confirmed.
Freshfields hired Miller in 1999 as an associate from Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. He made partner in the UK firm's corporate group in 2003.
Miller joins a raft of recent partner additions to Shearman's global M&A team, including the New York hires of former Clifford Chance partner Rob Masella in April and former Hogan Lovells partner Waajid Siddiqui in January. In Hong Kong, the firm hired former Kirkland & Ellis partner Stephanie Tang in March.
In London, Shearman most recently hired in July Jeremy Sharpe, former chief of investment arbitration in the US Department of State, into its London international arbitration team.
Before that, the firm also hired Ben Rodham in September 2014 as an M&A partner in the London office from Addleshaw Goddard.
Creighton Condon, Shearman senior partner, said: "With increasing M&A activity, we envision significant opportunities in London, Europe and globally to support our clients on their critical M&A transactions."
During his time at Freshfields, Miller led the team advising Spanish infrastructure group Ferrovial in 2012 on the sale of 10.62% of its stake in BAA's holding company, FGP Topco, to Qatar Holding for €607m (

Michael G. Bongiorno, Andrew Scott Dulberg and Elizabeth E. Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
