Linklaters has reappointed managing partner contender Gideon Moore to a second term as global head of banking, as the process for electing a successor to current managing partner Simon Davies moves to its next stage.

Moore is one of six candidates in the running to replace Davies as managing partner, with the result set to be announced in mid-November.

He has been reappointed to his role as global head of the banking practice for a three-year term with effect from 9 September. He was first appointed to the post in 2011, succeeding Robert Elliott when Elliott became the firm's senior partner.

In 2011 Moore saw off opposition from banking partner Tom Wells and Hong Kong-based partner Trevor Clark to win the practice leadership role.

The firm declined to say if there had been other candidates for the role this time round.

The other candidates for the managing partner position are Tom Shropshire, Marc Harvey, Michael Kent, Michael Bennett and Pieter Riemer.Moore's reappointment comes as all of the managing partner contenders are expected to make a presentation to the the firm's partnership board early next week, setting out their vision for Linklaters' future.

Soundings have already been held on all of those in the running by the firm's partnership.

Following next week's presentation to the board, its members will work to narrow down the list of candidates until the successor is chosen.

The successful candidate will then be put to the firm's partnership for a confirmatory vote in mid-November.
