KPMG has hired lawyer Bradley Quin to launch a legal services practice in Birmingham.

Quin's hire from specialist corporate and technology firm White & Black will give the accountancy firm its first legal base in Birmingham, to add to its existing capability in London and Manchester.

At White & Black Quin was a corporate partner focusing on telecoms, mobile applications and data monetisation.

He started his career at legacy Wragge & Co before joining legacy Hammonds as an associate in 2004. He then spent two years as general counsel of Great City Attractions before joining Howes Percival as a partner. He joined White & Black as a partner in 2013 before joining KPMG as a senior manager this month.

KPMG was awarded its alternative business structure (ABS) licence in October 2014. The firm received a multi-disciplinary practice (MDP) ABS which means that it is able to offer legal services from within a professional services firm that also offers services such as auditing.

KPMG currently employs around 75 lawyers and immigration specialists in the UK.

KPMG partner Nick Roome, who heads the firm's Manchester legal team, said: "Our legal services practice has gone from strength to strength, not least in the regions where we now have a very strong team operating from our Manchester office."

He added: "Bradley's appointment enables us to establish a dedicated hub in Birmingham to cater for clients in the region."

Three of the big four accountancy firms now have ABS licences. EY hired two partners from Addleshaw Goddard in Manchester in May to spearhead its expansion in the regions.
