Osborne Clarke is to convert to a UK limited liability partnership (LLP) at the end of October.

Currently the firm is structured as a traditional partnership, one of the last firms in the UK top 50 to retain this model.

An Osborne Clarke spokesperson said: "We have looked at the best structure for our business and can confirm that we are in the process of converting to Osborne Clarke LLP. This is currently being discussed by our partners and we will be able to share more details in due course."

The LLP model has become all but ubiquitous since its launch in 2001 with just a few, most notably Slaughter and May, retaining a traditional partnership structure.

Mishcon de Reya, one of the other firms that stuck to the traditional structure in the years following the introduction of the LLP model, converted its partnership to an LLP in 2014.

Osborne Clarke has focused on international expansion in recent years, opening offices in the US and Europe, and establishing alliance agreements in Asia.

Earlier this month the firm took its Hong Kong alliance partner Koh Vass & Co into its international verein.

Its partnership has also expanded through lateral hires and internal promotions. Its partner count topped 200 for the first time this year.
