Allen & Overy (A&O) US qualified capital markets partner Thomas Jones is leaving the firm to join the City office of US firm King & Spalding.

Jones joined the magic circle firm as an associate in 1995 from Cravath, Swaine & Moore. He made partner in 2000 and spent five years in Hong Kong before returning to London in 2008.

His hire comes as King & Spalding ramps up in London. This year, the firm has hired Latham & Watkins' former European vice chair of tax Daniel Friel and Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson's former head of international disputes Nick Cherryman.

Elsewhere, the firm recruited a four-partner team from Ashurst earlier this year to launch its second Asia office in Tokyo, spearheaded by Ashurst Tokyo managing partner John McClenahan.

A&O has seen a number of other US qualified lawyer exits over the past 12 months.

As Legal Week reported on Wednesday Hong Kong international capital markets and former Korea practice head Walter Son resigned last month just weeks after the firm opened its first office in Korea.

Other departures include fellow capital markets partner David Kuo who left in January to join Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy's Hong Kong office.

He joined several US-qualified A&O alumni, including partner Jim Grandolfo, counsel Paul Pery, and associates Kurtis Sherwood and Adam Heyd, who also transitioned from the US group of the magic circle firm at the end of 2013.
