Ropes & Gray adds two City partners in 17-strong global promotions round
Female promotions rise to more than half of the round as the number of London and Asia appointments drops

Ropes & Gray has promoted two London associates to partner in a 17-strong global promotions round with a heavy focus on female promotions.
In London, the firm promoted finance lawyers Robert Haak and Benoit Lavigne.
This year, more than half of the promotions were awarded to women with nine making the cut. All of the female promotions were made in the firm's US offices bar one, Tokyo government enforcement lawyer Kaede Toh who was made up in Asia.
In Asia, Ropes also promoted Hong Kong private equity lawyer Peng Yu to partner.
The rest of the appointments were all made in the US, with 10 promotions in Boston, two in New York and one in San Francisco.
By practice area, the majority of promotions were handed to associates in tax and litigation.
Last year, Ropes promoted 20 lawyers to partner, with four joining the firm's London partnership.
The firm also promoted three lawyers in Asia to partner in 2014.
Among the 20-strong promotions round seven of the new partners were female.
Last week, Latham & Watkins added four partners in London in its global promotions round, which saw 25 lawyers made up overall.
Previously, US rivals Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and McDermott Will & Emery unveiled promotions rounds in which they did not promote any London associates to partner.
Meanwhile, Kirkland & Ellis recently promoted eight London lawyers to partner out of 90 promotions in total. The promotions took effect from 1 October.

J. Brugh Lower of Gibbons has entered an appearance for industrial equipment supplier Devco Corporation in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi, is 3:24-cv-11294, Graco Inc. et al v. Devco Corporation.
