Rolls-Royce has appointed its head of legal and commercial as its general counsel following the exit of post holder Robert Webb.

New GC Mark Gregory was promoted to head of legal in January this year, following the exit of then head of legal and company secretary Nigel Goldsworthy. Pamela Coles, who joined Rolls-Royce from utility company Centrica in October, took over as company secretary.

Gregory joined FTSE 100 engineering company in 2005 having trained and practised at legacy Lovells in London and Hong Kong.

Webb has left the engineering giant to re-join Brick Court chambers, from where he joined in 2012 replacing previous GC Tim Rayner.

A spokesperson for the firm said Webb would continue to work with Rolls-Royce in an "advisory role".

Rolls-Royce's legal advisers include Slaughter and May, which advised it last year on its joint venture with European engineering and defence company Safran's Hispano-Suiza arm, and Addleshaw Goddard, which was added to its panel in 2008.

The engineering company also turned to Slaughter and May to handle an investigation of allegations into corruption and bribery involving intermediaries in overseas markets, it emerged earlier this month. The magic circle firm is working alongside US firm Debevoise & Plimpton, which was appointed to work on the investigation in 2012.
