Norton Rose Fulbright and Macfarlanes have both won roles acting on Irwin Mitchell and Thomas Eggar's £250m merger, announced on Wednesday.

Norton Rose Fulbright is advising Irwin Mitchell. Its team is being led by corporate partner Nick Adams and also includes tax partner Dominic Stuttaford.

Macfarlanes is acting for Thomas Eggar. Corporate partners John Dodsworth and Jessica Adam are taking the lead roles on the deal.

In August Dodsworth advised Exor, an investment company owned by Italy's Agnelli family, on its acquisition of £287m worth of shares in the Economist Group.

In 2014 Norton Rose's Adams advised the joint book runners on Game Digital's initial public offering, which valued the video game retailer at £340m.

The merger of Irwin Mitchell and Thomas Eggar, which was announced yesterday, is expected to complete in December.

It will create a £250m firm with offices in Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Bristol, Sheffield, London, Bristol, Leeds, Birmingham, Cambridge, Newbury, Southampton, Chichester, Worthing and Gatwick.

Irwin Mitchell currently has 2,187 staff, including 210 partners, in 11 UK offices. Thomas Eggar has 447 staff, including 67 partners, across six offices in southern England.

Irwin Mitchell reported revenue of £210.6m in 2014-15, up 4% on the previous year. Thomas Eggar, meanwhile, had turnover of £41m.

Earlier this week a clutch of law firms, including Hogan Lovells, Squire Patton Boggs and Osborne Clarke, advised on the break up and sale of the legal and insurance-focused Parabis Group.
