Magnusson aims to be the firm of choice for multinational clients conducting business across the Baltic Sea region. Having more than doubled its income from 2007 to 2014, this strategy is clearly paying off.
The firm, led by senior partner and founder Per Magnusson (pictured), also this year expanded into Hong Kong as it looks to capitalise on trade routes between Asia and the Baltic Sea region.
Cross-office referrals have accounted for much of the firm's revenue growth, constituting 27% of overall income growth in 2014 and increasing by 569% in the last three years.
The firm offers a number of pan-regional discount schemes for clients which use the firm in a number of jurisdictions. It also offers blended rates for partner, senior associates and associates in addition to key account benefits for major clients.
In the last 18 months the firm has added an impressive roster of new clients, including Burger King, Elliott Advisors, Akron Group, Inditex (ZARA), NEC, Nordic Growth Market, Tesla Motors, UBS Real Estate and Valad Europe. Key mandates have seen it advise Gothenburg on a €423m (£312m) financing provided by Danske Bank, SEB, Nordea, Handelsbanken and Swedbank, as well as the €535m (£387m) West Swedish Infrastructure Project.
Magnusson also this year launched a rebranding exercise to mark its 10th anniversary, with all employees invited to submit proposals for a new tagline. The winner – Simplifying Matters – was chosen from 95 suggestions. The firm also held a three-day conference of education and team-building for all employees to mark its anniversary.
Other major projects over the last year have included a move to an entirely cloud-based email infrastructure, which the firm says has led to better access, lower costs and an appreciable improvement in its disaster recovery process, as well as allowing IT to devote more time to new projects.
Per Magnusson commented: "After winning the European Law Firm of the Year award for three consecutive years, in 2012, 2013 and 2014, we are delighted to be recognised for yet another year in a row, as a highly commended firm.
"In March we launched our new brand identity, intended to greater reflect our approach to successful cooperation with clients across the Baltic Sea region and beyond. We continue to increase cross-office referrals and attract cross-border business. We expanded to Hong Kong and are developing trade routes between Asia and our region.
"Diversity is another of Magnusson's hallmarks. As of May 2015, more than 50% of our team is managed by female partners. We are proud of this fact and look forward to achieving a great deal more in the future."
On the CSR front, Magnusson cooperates with the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights as well as providing legal support on a pro bono basis to TRACE, a non-profit association that pools resources to provide anti-bribery compliance solutions.
