Sidley Austin has appointed 24 lawyers to its partnership, but only one of them is based in London.

Sidley appointed one partner in London and one in Brussels, the remaining new partners are all based in the US.

In London investment funds counsel James Oussedik was elevated to the partnership.

Oussedik joined Sidley two years ago as a counsel. He originally trained and qualified with PwC Legal, before joining Simmons & Simmons in 2008 and making the move to Sidley in 2014.

The other European lawyer promoted was Brussels-based commercial litigator Michele Tagliaferri.

The firm has added 22 partners across Los Angeles, New York, Palo Alto, San Francisco, and Washington DC in its New Year promotions round.

The firm promoted two partners in Los Angeles, four in New York, seven in Washington DC and one each in Palo Alto and San Francisco.

All the promotions take effect on 1 January 2016.

Last year the firm made up 32 partners in its New Year promotions round, including two in London.

Earlier this month Shearman & Sterling promoted five London lawyers to the partnership in a 12-strong global promotions round.

In November Simpson Thacher & Bartlett made up three lawyers to partner in its London office out of a nine-strong promotions round.
