Retired Allen & Overy senior partner Guy Beringer is among the senior City lawyers honoured in the New Year's honours list.

Beringer has been appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to export finance and pro bono work in the legal sector.

He was senior partner of Allen & Overy from 2000 to 2008. He has been chair of the management board of UK export finance since 2010.

Former Slaughter and May partner Charles Randell (pictured) was appointed as a CBE for services to financial stability and climate change.

charles-randell-slaughtersRandell was a partner at Slaughters between 1989 and 2013 and is currently an external member of the Bank of England's Prudential Regulation Authority.

He was particularly well known for his work for government, advising on a string of privatisations in the 1980s and 1990s including British Gas and British Energy.

Randell was heavily involved in Slaughter's work for the Treasury during the financial crisis of 2007-2008, acting on the nationalisation of Bradford & Bingley, government investments in RBS and Lloyds/HBOS and the fall-out from the collapse of the Icelandic banks Glitnir, Landsbanki and Kaupthing.

Linklaters partner David Ereira was also honoured for his services to the insolvency regime.

Restructuring and debt finance partner Ereira was appointed as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).

In November Ereira that he will join US firm Paul Hastings early in the New Year to build up its London restructuring and insolvency practice.

Prior to joining Linklaters in 2007 he spent 17 years at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

He is currently chairman of the Insolvency Service and vice chairman of the trustees of terminal illness charity Marie Curie.

Fountain Court Chambers QC Timothy Dutton was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). Commercial dispute resolution and professional discipline silk Dutton was chairman of the Bar Council in 2008 and sits as a deputy High Court judge.

Other appointments included a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for Charles Russell Speechly senior counsel Kate O'Rourke for services to further education. O'Rourke is a solicitor and registered trade mark attorney and vice chair of the governing body of City and Islington College.

Former president of the Law Society Carolyn Kirby was appointed an OBE for services to justice and cancer care. Kirby, who was president of the society in 2002-03, is currently president of the Mental Health Review Tribunal for Wales and chairman of the Cancer Information and Support Services for South West Wales.
