Pinsent Masons has recruited a former Accenture senior manager to lead its flexible working service Vario, as two of the co-founders of the business depart.

The firm has brought in Matthew Kay from recruitment company TMP Worldwide, where he was UK business development director. Vario has steadily expanded since its 2013 launch and now has over 200 lawyers on the books.

The former head of Vario, Alison Bond, and co-founder Katherine Thomas have both left the firm. Their next career moves are as yet unknown.

Pinsents senior partner Richard Foley (pictured) said that the rapid growth of the business encouraged the firm to bring in an external candidate with a background in recruitment.

Foley said that the firm wants to "create a more corporate-style management structure that complements the strength of our existing team", adding: "Matthew stood out as the right person to lead that change. He has the right blend of recruitment and strategic experience to help us review and pursue a long-term growth strategy."

The firm has also appointed Lyndsey Meredith this month as an account manager from Linklaters, and further additions to the Vario team are expected later this year. Meredith was a marketing account adviser for four years at Linklaters. Before that, she worked for neary two years as a business development executive for Clifford Chance.

Bond and Thomas have both led the Vario business full-time since its launch. Bond, a partner in Pinsents' central management team, has been at the firm since 1988 and made partner in 1994, while former marketing head Thomas joined in 2003.
