ITV has become the first in-house legal team to sign up to Rare's Contextual Recruitment System (CRS).

The broadcaster will use Rare's CRS to recruit trainee lawyers for its Trailblazer Apprenticeship scheme, launched last December.

The company joins a raft of law firms using the scheme including the entire magic circle, Ashurst, Macfarlanes, RPC, Travers Smith, Baker & McKenzie and Withers.

CRS allows recruiters to place the performance of potential recruits in context to aid the identification of stand-out candidates.

For example it allows recruiters to compare a candidates exam results with those of the rest of their school to help make it easier to identify talented students from less privileged backgrounds.

ITV will use the system when recruiting for its Trailblazer Apprenticeship scheme, which is backed by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department for Education. It aims to increase social mobility in the law.

ITV will recruit one apprentice to start in September 2016 who will then work in its legal team in addition to studying. The aim is that the apprentice will qualify as a solicitor in August 2022.

Barry Matthews, director of legal affairs and third party sales at ITV, said: "We're proud to be the first in-house legal team to offer an apprenticeship; we want to open up access to the law, and by virtue of doing that, have access to a wider talent pool."

A host of firm's have also committed to the Trailblazer Apprenticeship scheme including Dentons and Addleshaws, while Withers and Mayer Brown have already recruited legal apprentices.
