Allen & Overy (A&O), Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Slaughter and May and Dutch firm NautaDutilh have all won roles on Vodafone and Liberty Global's Netherlands merger.

Mobile company Vodafone and US cable giant Liberty Global are to merge their Dutch operations to create a Netherlands-wide communications provider.

It will be structured as a 50-50 joint venture with Vodafone making a €1bn (£780m) cash payment to Liberty to equalise ownership. The deal is expected to close towards the end of 2016.

Freshfields and A&O are acting as legal advisers to Liberty Global, while Slaughters and NautaDutilh are acting for Vodafone.

The Freshfields team includes corporate partners David Sonter and Philip Richards and tax partner Peter Clements.

A&O is fielding an Amsterdam-based team on the deal understood to be led by corporate partner Tim Stevens.

The Slaughter and May team is being led by corporate partners Roland Turnill and Susannah Macknay assisted by tax partner Steve Edge, competition partner Claire Jeffs and technology partner Rob Sumroy.

NautaDutilh's team includes technology, media and telecoms partner Piet Sippens, corporate partners Leo Groothuis and Lieke van der Velden and tax partner Chris Warner.

Slaughters took a lead role alongside Macfarlanes on Vodafone's 2013 disposal of its 45% stake in US mobile company Verizon Wireless. Turnill played a key role in that deal, assisted by tax partner Edge.

NautaDutilh meanwhile has acted as preferred adviser for Vodafone in the Netherlands since winning a 2007 beauty contest.

A&O provided Dutch law advice to Liberty Global on its 2014 takeover of Ziggo, Roberts led for A&O on that occasion as well.

Freshfields has also acted for Liberty Global in the past, advising on its 2014 purchase of a stake in ITV. Sonter headed the firm's team advising Liberty Global on that deal.
