Prime minister David Cameron's legal adviser, Andrew Hood, has joined US firm Dechert as a senior director in its international trade and government regulation practice.

hood-andyHood [pictured] advised Cameron for just over a year up until January before starting his role at Dechert this month.

It is understood that his replacement has not yet been found.

Miriam Gonzalez, co-chair of the practice Hood is joining, said: "Andrew Hood's knowledge of EU regulation is second to none.

"His understanding of the intricacies of the Brexit negotiations and the implications of Brexit for UK based companies are a real asset to clients."

Hood added: "It is a pivotal time for the UK's relationship with the EU and I look forward to working with all my colleagues at Dechert to provide expert and practical advice in the months and years ahead."

While serving as Cameron's legal adviser between October 2014 and January 2016, Hood's duties included developing and delivering politically sensitive policy and advice related to regulatory, constitutional and litigation issues.

He also regularly advised on export license grants and the impact of international EU and UN sanctions regimes.

In addition to this role, he was head of international and EU Law at the Attorney General's Office – which provides legal advice to the wide UK government – from August 2014 to January 2016.

Previously, he held positions including senior legal adviser at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
