Irwin Mitchell is to scrap the Thomas Eggar name as it combines its private client offerings under a new brand called Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth.

The new offering will bring together teams from Irwin Mitchell; Berkeley Law and Berkeley Hurrel, which Irwin Mitchell acquired in 2014; and Thomas Eggar, which merged with Irwin Mitchell in December 2015.

The private wealth team will have 40 partners and 500 staff in 15 locations across the UK.

The Berkeley brands will be dropped on 1 May with the launch of Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth. The Thomas Eggar brand will disappear on 31 May when all Thomas Eggar teams and buildings will switch to using the main Irwin Mitchell brand.

Craig Marshall (pictured), chief executive of the personal legal services division at Irwin Mitchell, said: "The launch of Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth is the next stage of our journey to becoming a market-leading service for private individuals. It builds on the fantastic reputation our teams already have for their expertise and client care."

Speaking to Legal Week in March, chief executive Andrew Tucker and former Thomas Eggar managing partner Vicky Brackett made clear that a focus on private wealth was central to the firm's future growth plans.

The firm will advise clients on succession planning, family and divorce matters, reputation protection, probate and estate administration and town and country property.

It will also act for executives and business owners on their personal business wealth including intellectual property, commercial property, succession planning and tax.

Meanwhile, the firm has appointed Roy Beckett as its regional managing partner in Manchester. Real estate partner Beckett joined the firm in 2013 from DLA Piper alongside a 14-strong team.

He succeeds Grahame Codd who is retiring. Beckett will retain his role as head of the Manchester business legal services division.
