Baker & McKenzie has hired Barclays head of competition Nicola Northway as a partner in its City office.

Northway will join the international firm as a partner in its EU, competition and trade practice group.

Prior to joining Barclays, where she has worked for 11 years, she was general counsel at energy regulator Ofgem.

Her start date at Bakers has not yet been confirmed.

Baker & McKenzie London-based global antitrust and competition head Samantha Mobley said: "Nicola's antitrust and international regulatory experience is second to none. Her outstanding record at both Barclays and Ofgem will be extremely valuable to our clients who are facing increasing regulatory scrutiny and complex global antitrust compliance issues."

Northway said: "The antitrust and competition landscape has changed enormously in recent years. Competition litigation is on the rise and all sectors are now facing increasing regulatory scrutiny and enforcement."

Northway's appointment comes just months after the firm appointed Jonathan Peddie, Barclays' ex-managing director of litigation and investigations, as a partner in its London office.

Peddie, who was also the bank's global head of financial crime legal, left Barclays in February 2015 after nine years.

His previous roles at the bank include managing director of litigation and investigations for global retail and commercial banking.

Peddie joined Bakers' corporate investigations group, where he focuses on investigations in the finance sector.

Other recent additions to Bakers' London office include Eversheds disputes partner Andy Moody who joined in December last year, former head of litigation at the BBC Nadia Banno and international arbitration and litigation partner Steve Abraham who joined from Norton Rose.
