Osborne Clarke is looking into opening an office in Poland as part of its ongoing international expansion, Legal Week understands.

The top 30 firm has expanded rapidly in recent years, opening offices across Europe and the US and its first Asia office in Hong Kong.

Now the firm is looking to strengthen its European offering with a base in Poland.

Poland is on the firm's radar because, according to one partner, "it opens up access to different jurisdictions".

Osborne Clarke opened in Germany in the early 2000s, but its European expansion really picked up pace in 2012 when it merged with its Italian and Spanish alliance partners, giving it bases in Rome, Milan, Padova, Brescia, Barcelona and Madrid.

In 2013, it added offices in Paris and Brussels, while in 2014 it opened in Amsterdam.

Asian expansion is also high on the agenda. One partner said: "The next chapter will be in Asia."

The firm opened its first Asia base in Hong Kong in 2014, with the hire of two partners from Bird & Bird. To comply with Hong Kong's regulatory regime, the firm originally traded as Koh & Vass, before joining Osborne Clarke's international verein in 2015.

The expansion plans were discussed at the firm's partner conference in Rome in April and come at a time when the firm is looking to build on recent growth with another strong financial year.

One partner said: "Business is phenomenally busy and the numbers are stacking up very well."

While another said that the 2015-16 financial year is "likely to be up there among the best years in recent times".

Osborne Clarke declined to comment.
