Kirkland & Ellis has hired Linklaters private equity partner David Holdsworth and tax partner Tim Lowe for its London office.

Holdsworth departs after 15 years at Linklaters. He joined the magic circle firm in 2001 and was promoted to partner in 2009. He trained at Edinburgh-headquartered firm Shepherd & Wedderburn.

Tax partner Lowe focuses on advising on private and public M&A transactions, private equity and corporate finance.

He trained with Linklaters and made partner in 2013.

The moves are the latest in a string of exits from Linklaters to Kirkland.

Holdsworth will be reunited with fellow City private equity partner Roger Johnson, who joined the US firm in September last year.

One month earlier, Kirkland also hired Linklaters star finance partner David Irvine in Hong Kong.

This was followed by the hire of Linklaters private equity managing associate Carlos Gil Rivas, who left the firm to join Kirkland as a partner in London.

Last year, Holdsworth led the team advising on the sale of Volkswagen's vehicle management company LeasePlan for €3.7bn (£2.6bn). Linklaters acted for the consortium of investors buying the company, including the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and Goldman Sachs.

Also in 2015, he won a mandate advising as GE Capital sold off its European sponsor finance unit to Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe (SMBCE) for $2.2bn (£1.4bn). Holdsworth led the team advising SMBCE.

Holdsworth has previously spent time working in Tokyo and regularly works with Japanese clients.

In April 2015, Lowe advised South African company Brait on its acquisition of an 80% stake in gym chain Virgin Active for £682m.

Other Linklaters partners that have moved over to Kirkland in the past few years include corporate partner and head of real estate M&A Matthew Elliott in February 2015. This was followed in May with the hire of Paul Riedel, head of Linklaters' competition practice.

Former Linklaters banking partner Stephen Lucas is also at Kirkland, having left Linklaters in 2011 to become Weil Gotshal & Manges London head of banking. He joined Kirkland from Weil as a partner in 2014.
