Hogan Lovells corporate partner Guy Potel is set to leave the transatlantic firm to join US rival White & Case.

He has handed in his notice and is set to join White & Case in its London office.

Potel, who made partner at Hogan Lovells in 2010, focuses on advising public companies on issues such as M&A, joint ventures and equity capital raises.

In 2014, he was part of the team that acted for home improvement retailer Kingfisher on its sale of a controlling stake of B&Q China to Beijing's Wumei Holdings.

Jan Matejcek, regional section head for M&A and corporate in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said Potel would "play an important role in the ongoing development of our London public M&A practice".

He added: "There are exciting opportunities to work with our private equity team on portfolio company exits, and our equity capital markets team on issuer IPOs and secondary equity offerings by listed companies."

A Hogan Lovells spokesperson said: "We wish Guy well in the next phase of his career and thank him for his contribution to Hogan Lovells over the years."

White & Case has been on a hiring push in London recently as it targets growth in the City as part of its 2020 strategy.

In the last month, the firm has hired two partners from Ashurst – corporate partner Jonathan Parry and London disputes head Mark Clarke.

White & Case is aiming to grow its London office by 40% over five years, with a focus on M&A, capital markets and disputes.

According to Legal Week's US hiring survey, the firm made seven lateral partner hires in the UK between 2012 and 2015.

Earlier this month, Hogan Lovells hired Berwin Leighton Paisner's global arbitration head, Kent Phillips, as a partner in its Singapore office.

In 2016, the firm made up five new partners in London as part of a 24-strong global round.
