Linklaters has become the first magic circle firm to sign up to an artificial intelligence (AI) provider.

The firm has signed a deal to take on AI service provider RAVN as its provider for a number of automated tasks.

According to its website, RAVN offers a wide variety of services with its AI engine. These include electronic discovery, various data search tools and contract governance process automation.

A Linklaters spokesperson said: "We have a master services agreement in place with RAVN, which was signed recently. Having this agreement will enable us to create statements of work and use the technology if it is likely to be of benefit to us and or our clients."

In 2015, Berwin Leighton Paisner signed an agreement with RAVN to use its artificial intelligence system to work with its real estate practice.

The news comes a matter of weeks after new managing partner Gideon Moore confirmed that Linklaters had launched a review of the firm's business services functions.

Linklaters has hired professional services firm Deloitte to carry out the review of its business services function, which currently employs more than 2,000 people.
