Eversheds has bolstered its Manchester banking offering with the transfer of its regional banking head Jason Wurzal from Leeds to Manchester.

Wurzal (pictured), who heads up Eversheds banking offering outside London, has made the move to strengthen the office after the departure of Manchester banking partner Nigel Dale.

Dale, who previously led the Manchester banking team, left at the end of the financial year to join specialist lender Together as general counsel.

Wurzal said: "Nigel was a very senior figure and we wanted to replace him with someone of equal stature, which hopefully I am."

Banking partner Kathryn Walters is now heading up Eversheds' finance offering in Leeds.

The firm has also promoted Taslima Salam to partner in Manchester, bringing its banking team to two partners and six assistants.

Wurzal said he is hoping to expand the scope of the Manchester banking team, while maintaining its existing areas of strength.

"We have a very strong practice acting for corporate borrowers and we are looking to maintain that and also to develop work on the bank side as well," he said.

Wurzal described his move as "an endorsement of the importance of the Northwest to Eversheds", adding: "It is an important market for us."

Recent recruits for the firm in Manchester include pensions partner Charmian Johnson, who joined the firm in March from Squire Patton Boggs; and commercial partner Nick Stubbs, who joined in April from Ward Hadaway.
