Linklaters and Davis Polk & Wardwell are advising on Thai Hot Investment's $1.37bn (£944m) purchase of Dah Sing Financial Holdings' Hong Kong and Macau life insurance subsidiaries.

The magic circle firm is acting for Dah Sing Financial Holdings Limited and Dah Sing Banking Group Limited, with a team led by global corporate head Matthew Middleditch. The team also includes Hong Kong-based associates.

Middleditch said: "This follows acting on major deals in the sector for numerous banks entering into long term, pan-Asian insurance distribution agreements and acting for JD Capital on its acquisition of Ageas's Hong Kong life insurance subsidiary, which completed recently."

Citigroup is acting as financial adviser to Dah Sing on the transaction.

Davis Polk Hong Kong corporate partner Paul Chow is advising Fujian-headquartered Thai Hot on its acquisition.

The US firm has acted on a number of significant regional deals this year, including INBev's $1.6bn (£1.1bn) China Beer sale and JD.com's $1bn (£690m) debt offering. The firm has also been mandated on gold and silver producer Freeport-McMoRan's $2.65bn (£1.83bn) sale of its interests in a major African copper mine.

Last month, Linklaters elected Charlie Jacobs as senior partner, with Jacobs beating London corporate partner Aedamar Comiskey and Belgium corporate partner Jean-Pierre Blumberg to secure the leadership post.

The magic circle firm recently slipped down the FTSE 250 adviser rankings from second to third place, despite expanding its client roster from 27 to 28 with the addition of KAZ Minerals.
