White & Case has hired Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer London banking partner Jeffrey Rubinoff.

Rubinoff, who has been with the firm for nearly 20 years, acts for clients on a wide range of banking matters but is particularly experienced in property finance deals.

His clients include banks, property investors, private equity houses and sovereign wealth funds.

Prior to joining Freshfields in 1996, he practised at two Canadian firms – Osler Hoskin & Harcourt and Faskin Martineau.

In 2013, he advised investment firm TPG and real estate company Ivanhoe Cambridge on their joint venture to acquire logistics and warehouse business PointPark Properties, from alternative investment firm Arcapita.

White & Case aims to grow its London office lawyer count by 40% as part of its 2020 strategy.

It is aiming to expand in three core areas: M&A, capital markets and disputes.

In May, the firm hired corporate partner Guy Potel from Hogan Lovells in London.

Other recent London hires for the firm include capital markets partner Jonathan Parry and disputes partner Mark Clarke, who both joined the firm from Ashurst in the space of two weeks in April and May.

Last month, it emerged that Freshfields was restructuring its finance practice in an attempt to boost profitability.

The restructure amalgamated smaller team practices into larger groups.

Teams such as asset, project and aviation finance were consolidated into one overall group. Capital markets and corporate treasury are also be combined, while the magic circle firm's greenfield, brownfield and bond groups are merging into one infrastructure team.

There is no indication that Rubinoff's move is related to the restructure.
