EY has launched legal services offerings in Chile and Argentina and hired a partner from Norton Rose Fulbright in Toronto to lead its Canadian business law team.

The Big Four accountant has hired Jorge Garnier from Argentine power company Genneia, where he was senior legal counsel, as an executive director to build a team focusing on corporate law.

In Chile, EY has recruited Paola Bruzzone from retailer Falabella where she was general counsel. She will lead the legal services group, which will focus on corporate and commercial law.

EY has also hired Norton Rose Fulbright partner Anthony Kramreither to lead its business law team in Canada. He was previously a partner in Norton Rose's corporate practice in Toronto.

Cornelius Grossmann, EY global head of law, said: "These key hires provide the breadth and experience required to deliver multidisciplinary services as we continue to acquire the leading talent for our growing teams."

EY set itself a target of expanding to 75 jurisdictions by the end of 2015, but with the addition of Argentina and Chile it now has offices in 73 countries.

It has around 1,700 practitioners in member or allied firms worldwide.

Recent hires include Addleshaw Goddard's competition head Phil McDonnell, who joined EY earlier this month as executive director and head of competition law for UK and Ireland; and Matthijs Driedonks, an Allen & Overy senior associate who joined HVG, which is part of the EY network, as a partner in its Amsterdam office.
