poundsIndependent Scottish firm Shepherd and Wedderburn has seen a third consecutive year of growth, with revenue up 11% to £53m and profit for distribution up 20% to £21.5m.

The results come at the end of a year that saw Stephen Gibb, chief executive of Shepherd and Wedderburn, reappointed for a second term.

Paul Hally, the firm's chairman, said: "With Stephen at the helm, the firm has gone from strength to strength and we have enjoyed a period of sustained growth.

"Our revenue has grown by over 43% during his tenure and we are now a firm of over 500 people – 122 more than in 2012."

Gibb said the firm had seen "solid growth" in core areas including corporate, real estate, dispute resolution and private client. He added: "We have also seen particular growth in the digital and telecoms sectors during that period."

The growth follows from the acquisition of Tods Murray in October 2014. Shepherd and Wedderburn has also recently moved back into the Aberdeen market after hiring Pinsent Masons corporate partner John Rutherford as a consultant.

Other big Scottish firms have also enjoyed growth. Brodies posted a revenue increase of 12% to £65.1m in 2015-16. Profit before partner distributions grew 14.2% to £30.9m.
