City-of-London-Article-201606261633Slaughter and May, Linklaters and RPC have all been appointed to insurance group RSA's reduced global legal panel.

However, current panel firms Allen & Overy, Ashurst and Norton Rose Fullbright were not reappointed as RSA reduced its panel from five firms to three.

The reduction in the number of firms on the panel is due to the company coming to the end of its strategic review, which means it anticipates having less legal work to do.

Managing counsel Jonathan Cope, assisted by the group's head of financial crime Peter Townsend and general counsel Charlotte Heiss, carried out the review.

Cope said: "We limited the pitches to two per law firm. The first one was limited to just the law firm itself; we were looking at things like non-chargeable benefits and secondments. Generally, it was quite an informal chat and it gave us an opportunity to see the full range of services the law firms could offer.

"The second one was more technical and gave us a chance to see how these law firms would help us in specific areas in the future."

RPC has made it onto the global panel for the first time. However, it was already a member of the RSA's UK panel.

Cope said: "RPC has been on the UK panel for several years and we felt that their insurance expertise was very good and we will use them in a way that will befit us globally."

The group's legal panel was last reviewed in 2011.
