Baker & McKenzie has appointed tax partner Alex Chadwick as its new London office head.

Chadwick will assume the role on 1 September this year, for a three-year term.

He replaces IP partner Paul Rawlinson, who was elected as global chairman in July. Rawlinson starts on 23 October, when current global chairman Eduardo Leite stands down.

Chadwick joined Bakers as a trainee in 1990 and made partner in 1999. He heads the firm's tax practice in London and also sits on Bakers' Europe tax transactions steering committee.

He said: "Following the result of the recent referendum, I look forward to ensuring that the London office continues to advise and guide our clients through what will be challenging and exciting unchartered waters."

Rawlinson replaced M&A partner Gary Senior as London head in 2013, when Senior stepped down after a decade in the role.

During his time in the role, Rawlinson discussed headcount and revenue growth as his two main priorities.

Prior to beginning his term, the total headcount for the London office stood at 680. The headcount is now more than 800.

In the firm's 2013-14 financial year, which ran from 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014, the London office generated revenue of £133m. In 2014-15, that rose 5% to £140m.

The firm is yet to announce its 2015-16 results.
