Mishcon de Reya has settled a claim for £123,815 in unpaid legal fees from an investment management client.

The amount related to corporate work carried out by the City firm for Stanhope Capital between October 2015 and March this year.

Stanhope, which has offices in London, Geneva and Jersey, advises wealthy families, charities and other institutions on their investments.

The claim form, which was issued on 8 July, states that in April this year, Mishcons sent an invoice to Stanhope private equity head Jerome Sibony for the sum of £123,815.

Mishcons subsequently sent follow-up emails requesting confirmation of receipt, before the matter was referred to the firm's credit management department. The claim form says that in response, Stanhope said it "did not believe a retainer letter had been signed or agreed".

A final demand for payment was sent on 18 May, to which Stanhope responded by requesting a full breakdown of the work undertaken for them, which Mishcons provided on 10 June.

The claim – which included interest of £1,790, taking the total amount claimed above £125,000 – is understood to have been settled earlier this month following a payment by Stanhope.

Both Mishcons and Stanhope decline to comment.
