Irwin Mitchell partner Simon Tweedle is set to join Dentons in its London banking and finance practice. This follows on from the announcement last week that four real estate partners are set to move from Irwin Mitchell to Dentons in London.
Tweedle's practice focuses on real estate finance, acting for funders and borrowers on a wide range of domestic and international real estate deals. He joined Irwin Mitchell in 2010 as a partner from legacy SJ Berwin as part of a 20-strong team. He trained at legacy Denton Wilde Sapte, before moving to Sidley Austin and then spending time in-house at real estate finance company Capmark.
Eversheds has reappointed Gayle McFarlane as a partner in its technology and outsourcing practice in Birmingham. McFarlane started her career with the firm, before moving on to Gowling WLG. Most recently she was a partner at Cordery, a company owned by Lexis Nexis that aims to support general counsel with compliance issues.
Holman Fenwick Willan has boosted its corporate practice with the hire of partner Georges Racine in Geneva. He joins from Swiss firm Lalive, where he was a partner. Between 2004 and 2007, he was a partner in Canadian firm Fasken Martineau's London office. Between 1996 and 2004, he was a partner at Canadian firm McCarthy Tetrault, based in London, Toronto and Quebec. The firm has also hired insurance partner Christopher Foster from Herbert Smith Freehills. His practice focuses on coverage disputes, professional indemnity work and Bermuda Form matters.
Shoosmiths has boosted its City presence with three lateral hires. Corporate partner Amit Nayyar joined the firm in July from Hogan Lovells. His practice focuses on M&A for private equity firms and corporates. Planning partner Tim Johnson, who advises on large-scale complex residential and mixed use developments, has joined from Charles Russell Speechly. Angus Evers, who previously headed up the European environmental law practice at King & Wood Mallesons, completes the trio of lateral partner hires.
Partner Robert Parson has rejoined Clyde & Co in the firm's global trade finance group. Parson joins from Reed Smith, where he was a partner in the energy and natural resources group. Before joining Reed Smith in 2008, he spent six years at Clydes.
DWF has made two partner hires in Dubai, including a new managing partner for the Middle East. Waseem Khokhar joins the firm from PwC Legal as the new managing partner for the region. He focuses on government legal consultancy work, advising bodies such as the Gulf Cooperation Council on projects and policy issues. Jazz Moman joins the firm as a director in the firm's real estate team, from King & Wood Mallesons. He advises clients on real estate development, transactions and financing throughout the UAE and also advises UK clients on investment into the region.
Bird & Bird has hired technology partner Sakari Halonen from Finnish firm Dittmar & Indrenius. Halonen will co-head Bird & Bird's Finnish technology and communications group, alongside existing head Jesper Nevalainen.
Jones Day has boosted its Amsterdam office with the hire of restructuring partner Jasper Berkenbosch from DLA Piper. Berkenbosch joins the US firm along with senior associate Erik Schuurs, and associates Sophie Beerrepoot and Sid Pepels.
Hill Dickinson has expanded its commodities practice with the re-hire of former partner Andrew Buchmann. He joins in London, having previously spent five years with the firm from 2003 to 2008, before leaving to set up a commodities consultancy in South Africa. He advises on transactions and contentious issues in connection with physical trades, finance, shipping and the insurance sector.
PwC Legal has hired James Drury-Smith as a director in its cyber and data team. He joins from Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe where he was of counsel. His experience includes advising clients on cross-border privacy issues, advising on data protection controls and implementing compliance programmes.
Linklaters has appointed Antonio Soares as its new managing partner in Portugal. He takes over from Pedro Siza Vieira, who was managing partner from 2006 to 2016. Soares, head of corporate finance in Portugal, joined Linklaters as a partner in 2002. His practice focuses on capital markets and M&A work.

J. Brugh Lower of Gibbons has entered an appearance for industrial equipment supplier Devco Corporation in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi, is 3:24-cv-11294, Graco Inc. et al v. Devco Corporation.

Yalowitz of Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer have entered their appearances for Hanaco Venture Capital and its executives, Lior Prosor and David Frankel, in a pending securities lawsuit. The action, filed on Dec. 24 in New York Southern District Court by Zell, Aron & Co. on behalf of Goldeneye Advisors, accuses the defendants of negligently and fraudulently managing the plaintiff's $1 million investment. Attorneys from A&O Shearman has stepped in as defense counsel for Toronto-Dominion Bank and other defendants in a pending securities class action. The suit, filed Dec. 11 in New York Southern District Court by Bleichmar Fonti & Auld, accuses the defendants of concealing the bank's 'pervasive' deficiencies in regards to its compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and the quality of its anti-money laundering controls. Crown Castle International, a Pennsylvania company providing shared communications infrastructure, has turned to Luke D. Wolf of Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani to fend off a pending breach-of-contract lawsuit. The court action, filed Nov. 25 in Michigan Eastern District Court by Hooper Hathaway PC on behalf of The Town Residences LLC, accuses Crown Castle of failing to transfer approximately $30,000 in utility payments from T-Mobile in breach of a roof-top lease and assignment agreement. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Susan K. Declercq, is 2:24-cv-13131, The Town Residences LLC v. T-Mobile US, Inc. et al.

Wilfred P. Coronato and Daniel M. Schwartz of McCarter & English have stepped in as defense counsel to Electrolux Home Products Inc. in a pending product liability lawsuit. The court action, filed Nov. 26 in New York Eastern District Court by Poulos Lopiccolo PC and Nagel Rice LLP on behalf of David Stern, alleges that the defendant's refrigerators’ drawers and shelving repeatedly break and fall apart within months after purchase.
