Latham & Watkins has continued its European hiring spree with the addition of Allen & Overy's (A&O) German international capital markets group head, Oliver Seiler, in Frankfurt.
Seiler also co-heads A&O's EMEA equity capital markets practice.
He specialises in international equity capital markets transactions, including capital increases, IPOs, convertible and exchangeable bonds, and block trade transactions.
Earlier this year, Seiler was part of the team advising life sciences company Bayer on the financing aspects of its $62bn (£42.7bn) offer to buy agricultural company Monsanto.
The hire makes him the second A&O partner to leave for Latham in recent weeks. In July, the US firm hired the magic circle firm's former banking head Stephen Kensell.
Latham's German office managing partner Oliver Felsenstein said Seiler is "one of the most experienced and respected capital markets partners in [Germany]", and that his practice "combines well with the existing team".
Capital markets global co-chair Ruediger Malaun added that Seiler's arrival was "an important step" in building up the firm's Germany transactional practice, focusing on its "strong synergies" across equity capital markets, private equity and high yield practices.
The hire comes more than a year after Felsenstein made a similar move himself, joining Latham's Frankfurt office in May 2015 from Clifford Chance (CC). Fellow CC private equity partner Burc Hesse joined the firm in March. Both joined as corporate partners. In August, Felsenstein was appointed Germany managing partner.
It is also the second A&O finance hire for Latham this year. In July, the firm recruited former banking head Stephen Kensall as a finance partner in London.
This year, Latham has made a raft of hires in London. This week, it announced the hire of financial regulatory partner Nicola Higgs from Ashurst. In early August, it also recruited Slaughter and May structured finance partner Sanjev Warna-kula-suriya, in a rare departure from the firm.
Other high profile 2016 City hires include Ashurst restructuring partner Simon Baskerville in July and Ashurst global co-head of regulation Rob Moulton in June. In May, the US firm also hired Debevoise & Plimpton arbitration partner Sophie Lamb.
