PwC Legal has unveiled strong financial results for the last financial year, with revenues rising from £48.5m to £59.9m – an increase of 24%.

The accounting giant's legal services arm, which is led by senior partner Shirley Brookes, posted net income of £11m.

Brookes said: "All nine of our practice areas saw growth in this financial year, with pensions, employment, immigration and corporate restructuring performing particularly well.

"Our strategy is simple. It is to offer clients a legal service that complements something that PwC is doing, giving clients a truly holistic service. [It] is our differentiator in the market.

"Over the next year, cyber and IT will continue to be priorities and we will also be growing our regional business."

PwC was granted an alternative business structure (ABS) licence in January 2014, a move which enabled the legal services business to become more closely integrated with the wider accounting firm. PwC Legal revenues have now grown by more than 40% during the past two financial years.

Fellow Big Four accounting firm Deloitte also recently released its results for the financial year ending 31 May. Deloitte's network grossed $36.8bn (£27.7bn) – a 9.5% increase on the previous year. The audit firm said its tax and legal division grew at 10%, the highest growth since 2008, boosted in part by the sixth consecutive year of even faster growth within Deloitte Legal.

Deloitte now has 1,677 lawyers or legal professionals, up more than a quarter since 2014.

"Deloitte is focused on creating the premier global law firm, with the goal of realising independent legal practices in over 100 countries by 2020," up from 70 currently, a spokesman said.

Revenues have grown even faster. Deloitte's legal services arm grossed 16.9% more this past year, continuing a six-year streak of double-digit growth, although it declined to provide an exact revenue figure.
