GE Capital has restructured its senior legal team and moved the centre of its legal operations from New York to London.

GE Capital, the financial services arm of General Electric, has promoted chief legal counsel Andrew Bull to general counsel (GC), succeeding New York-based Jim Waterbury in the role. Bull will remain in London once he moves into the position.

Waterbury will now become senior counsel for M&A at GE Corporate.

GE Capital real estate GC, Mark Horncastle, who is also based in London, will take on Bull's responsibilities as chief legal counsel for GE Capital International. The role encompasses all legal matters for GE Capital in all regions apart from the US.

The company is nearing the completion of a $200bn (£154bn) business divestiture of its global commercial and consumer units, and is focusing on providing financing for GE products.

Bull, who trained as a lawyer in South Africa, spent just over a year as an associate at Clifford Chance (CC) before joining GE Money UK in 2001. He moved over to GE Capital in 2005.

Regular advisers to GE Capital include CC, which acted on the sale of its European sponsor finance unit to Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe last year, Weil Gotshal & Manges and King & Wood Mallesons.
