Linklaters' outgoing senior partner Robert Elliot will remain at the magic circle firm as a consultant when his term officially ends this year.

Elliott, who will continue to advise the magic circle firm's clients in the areas of restructuring and insolvency, banking and corporate, has been senior partner at the City giant since 2011.

He joined Linklaters in 1990, making partner in 1991. He was appointed global head of restructuring and insolvency in 1996, and took over as global head of banking in 2007.

In May this year, London corporate partner Charlie Jacobs was elected as Linklaters' new senior partner. Jacobs, who was long seen as the favourite for the role, beat London corporate partner Aedamar Comiskey and Belgium corporate partner Jean-Pierre Blumberg to secure the leadership post.

A spokesperson said: "We are grateful for the great leadership and energy that Robert has demonstrated during his five-year tenure as senior partner.

"Following the end of his term, we can confirm that Robert will remain associated with the firm working in a client advisory role, particularly in the areas of restructuring and insolvency, banking and corporate work, and will continue to represent the firm on various industry bodies."

Linklaters enjoyed a solid 2015-16 financial year, with revenues up 3.5% to £1.31bn and profit per equity partner rising 2.5 to £1.45m.
