Transfer Window – Bird & Bird's Baseline gets a new CEO as Bakers hires in Switzerland

Bird & Bird has appointed Edoardo Monopoli as chief executive of Baseline, the firm's change management consulting joint venture with IT business ASE Consulting. Monopoli joins from management consultants Valeocon, where he remains a partner and leader of the UK team. Former chief executive Dominic Cook left the role in August this year, having led Baseline since its launch in February 2015.
Baker & McKenzie has hired a 10-lawyer team, including five partners, from Swiss firm Froriep in Zurich. Corporate partners Beat Barthold and Pascal Richard, banking and finance partner Ansgar Schott, intellectual property partner Alessandro Celli and competition partner Boris Wenger join Bakers' Zurich office along with five associates.
DLA Piper has hired dispute resolution and compliance partner Olga Vorozhbyt from CMS Cameron McKenna in Ukraine. Vorozhbyt joins DLA as head of the firm's litigation and regulatory practice in Ukraine. She has particular experience in complex commercial fraud and white collar crime investigations.
The firm has also hired a legal director and two senior associates from Addleshaw Goddard to strengthen its construction disputes team. Alison Fagan joins DLA as a partner in its Manchester office, alongside senior associates Robin Jack in Manchester and Jack Banks in London.
US firm Vinson & Elkins has boosted its London private equity offering with the hire of former Ashurst Singapore managing partner Shaun Lascelles. Lascelles has been replaced as Ashurst Singapore head by dispute resolution partner Ronnie King, who becomes the third postholder in recent months, as Lascelles only replaced Keith McGuire after his resignation four months ago.
Winston & Strawn has appointed former White & Case partner Campbell Steedman as its Middle East managing partner. Corporate partner Steedman spent five years at White & Case in Dubai, having previously been head of legacy Norton Rose's Middle East practice.
DAC Beachcroft has hired employment partner Joanne Owers from Fox Williams. Owers joins the firm in Bristol. Before joining Fox Williams, she spent time at legacy Charles Russell and Baker & McKenzie.
Peter Sharp, the managing partner of Morgan Lewis's UK office, is set to step down from the role after six years. He will be replaced by the firm's UK competition group head Frances Murphy. Murphy was antitrust and regulation head for legacy Bingham McCutchen before its merger with Morgan Lewis in 2014.
Taylor Wessing has added to its tax practice with the hire of partners in Vienna and Paris. Michaela Petritz-Klar has joined as central and eastern Europe head of tax from Schonherr, where she was head of tax. Michael Jaffe joins as a tax partner in Paris from PwC Societe d'Avocats, where he was managing partner for France and francophone Africa.
Ince & Co has appointed a new employment head, Rebecca Thornley-Gibson, who has joined the firm as a partner in its London office. She was previously a partner and head of employment and travel at asb law.
Dentons has hired corporate investigations partner David Loxton to its Johannesburg office. He joins from ENSafrica, where he was a director in its forensics department. Loxton specialises in the investigation and prevention of white collar crime, corporate fraud, cybercrime and money laundering.
Kingsley Napley has hired Howard Kennedy's head of commercial litigation, partner Sue Thackeray. Thackeray was head of litigation at legacy firm Finers Stephens Innocent prior to its merger with Howard Kennedy between 2007 and 2013. She has particular expertise in civil fraud involving complex, multi-jurisdictional international commercial litigation, including bribery and corruption.
DWF has appointed Amanda Banister as a pensions partner in its London office. She was previously a senior associate at Stephenson Harwood.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
