City of London

Ropes & Gray has made up two London lawyers in a reduced global round, with 11 promotions altogether, compared to 17 last year.

In London, the firm has promoted tax counsel Andrew Howard and real estate associate David Seymour to its partnership.

Howard spent three years as an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell before joining Ropes in 2014. Seymour trained and worked as an associate at Slaughter and May from 2005 to 2012, before departing for Ropes.

This year, just three of the promotions were awarded to women. Last year, more than half of the new partners were female.

Of the 11 promoted this year, four were based in Boston, while New York has received two new partners. The firm's Silicon Valley, Washington DC and Hong Kong office each had one promotion.

By practice area, the majority of promotions were handed to associates in private equity.

Last year, the firm promoted two London associates out of the 17-strong round.
