Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer dispute resolution partner Raj Parker has joined Matrix Chambers as an associate member.
Parker, who joined Matrix yesterday (1 November), spent more than three decades at Freshfields, including 23 years as a partner.
Parker trained as a barrister before becoming a solicitor. His practice focuses on sports law, insurance and investigations matters. He also co-led Freshfields pro bono sector group.
Highlights from his time at Freshfields include helping the Football Association set up the Premier League in the early 1990s, in addition to acting in numerous Court of Arbitration for Sport cases as advocate and latterly as arbitrator.
He also advised the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games on matters related to areas such as gambling and doping.
Freshfields dispute resolution head David Scott said: "We wish him all the very best for his future career around the corner at Matrix Chambers."
His exit comes just months after Freshfields litigation heavyweight Ian Terry announced plans to retire from the partnership to join chambers. Terry, who retired in April, joined One Essex Court as a mediator last month.
Earlier this week, Legal Week reported that Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) head of advocacy Ian Gatt QC had resigned from the firm to join litigation specialists Stewarts Law as a partner.
Gatt joined HSF in 2005 from Littleton Chambers to launch the firm's advocacy unit, alongside 11 Stone Buildings' Murray Rosen QC.
