The call has gone out to Asia's leading lawyers, law firms and in-house teams to enter the fourth annual Asia Legal Awards.

The Asian Lawyer, in association with Legal Week, China Law & Practice and The American Lawyer, is inviting nominations across a range of categories that recognise deal teams, individuals, law firms and in-house legal departments.

The awards are open to all law firms with offices in Asia and will take place at a gala dinner to be held on 22 February at the Four Seasons Hotel, Hong Kong. The nomination deadline is 9 December.

Nine deals are up for grabs under the M&A, securities and finance categories. And, as a nod to the region's evolving markets and most sought-after areas of expertise, the awards also recognise firms and lawyers in the fields of investment funds, compliance/investigations, competition, IP, employment, energy and TMT.

There are grand prizes for International Law Firm Leader of the Year, Asian Law Firm Leader of the Year, International Law Firm of the Year, Asian Law Firm of the Year and a new category, In-House Legal Department of the Year. The awards will also highlight six In-House Counsel of Distinction.

Among the big winners in 2016 were South Korea's Yulchon, which scooped the Asian Law Firm of the Year award, and Kirkland & Ellis, which was named International Law Firm of the Year. Those honoured for their excellence in leadership were Zhong Lun Law Firm's Wu Peng in China and Robert Ashworth, Asia managing partner of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
